Skiing first descents of 6000 meter peaks in the Indian Himalayas

For the past month of June 2019 I was in the Indian Himalayas skiing peaks at the 6000 meter elevation. I originally planned to be climbing some alpine lines as well during the period yet my climbing partner wasn’t fit to do so. He completed a 100 km race with 5000m of elevation gain two weeks prior to our expedition. When you run ultra races, you basically need to give two weeks of recovery for every 20 kilometers you run more or less, which would leave him at 8-10 weeks for recovery.

When he arrived he was fine, when we went to altitude, he simply had no power. He could barely walk more than a few hundred meters without feeling winded. I felt bad for him. He stayed in base camp for the expedition and I went skiing peaks alone.

Over the duration of the period, I climbed five 6000m peaks, skiing three of them. I did not see any trace of any one climbing them before, and certainly not skiing them. I felt really good after months of training, recovering daily after each peak.

Stay tuned!
